From the Dallin Nurse: Back to School Health Guidelines

1/9/2026 5:56 am

Dear Dallin Families,

As we return to school this week after a break filled with family time, travel, and holiday celebrations (and, unfortunately, some germ-sharing), I want to remind everyone to please refer to the APS Illness Guidelines when deciding if your student is physically well enough to attend school.

Although school attendance is an integral part of your student's education, there are times that they must stay home for their own well-being and the well-being of their fellow school community members. As is typical and expected this time of year, we are starting to see an increase in illness-related absences, as well as an increase in students attending school not feeling well.

If you are on the fence about whether or not to send your student to school, please err on the side of caution and consult myself and/or their pediatrician before sending them to school sick.

In addition to the Illness Guidelines, please consider the following when deciding whether or not to send your child to school when they are not feeling well:
  • Do you have to give them medication before school, to "get them through the day"? If so, that's an indicator that staying home is the best option.
  • Were they up all night? Are they exhausted? A day of rest is best.
  • Will they come see the school nurse at 8:01, and 15 more times during the school day?
  • Will they be able to fully participate in their school day and fully access their learning?
Thank you for your understanding and partnership in helping to keep each other healthy as we return to school in the midst of winter illness season. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
